Wedding Details &/or Other Things to Share:

So, I ordered my dress back in February in a little shop less than a mile from my house. They were very funny about all the "rules" for the place, like no photos in the shop and none of the designer's names were on any of the gowns. The sales ladies claimed not to know the designers of any of the gowns because they're not the ones that do the ordering. Even advertisements in the shop for gowns had the names covered up.

There's a reception hall attached to the place and the shop claimed that it was the reception hall's rule that you couldn't have outside cameras, but somehow that seems preposterous to me. Let's face it, the no photos and no names on things is because they don't want you finding the gown you fall in love with cheaper online or in another shop.

So, shady as this all seems, I bought my gown there, because I fell in love with it (you know how it is). They said that once you had bought the dress they'd usually let the brides sneak a couple of pictures (this allowance only reinforces my theory as to why you can't take pictures). All is well, the dress is in and I'll go pay off the balance in the next few weeks. Even though the wedding isn't until January, I'm not leaving my dress with them. There have been a few incidents in my area of shops going out of business and closing their doors before brides can pick up the dresses they've ordered. I'm going to pick it up and take it home and bring it back for fittings later.

ANYWAY, I STILL don't know the designer name for my dress. I've scoured the internet to no avail. The only thing I have to go on is that the sales lady said she "thinks" it might have been by Venus, but I've looked at their website a dozen times and my dress isn't on there. So, you, ladies, are my last hope!

Have you seen this dress? (No peeking Adam!)Collapse )

Hi :) [09 Feb 2007|04:52pm]

Name/Username: Kristy
Fiance's Name/Username: Matt
Location: St. Paul, MN
When Did You Meet: April 3, 2004
When Did You Get Engaged: Jan. 6, 2006
Wedding Date: Jan. 5, 2008 (two years from the day we got engaged- we were engaged in New Zealand, and they are a day ahead of here!)
List in Community Wedding Calendar? Sure
Wedding Location: Somewhere in the Twin Cities- location is still to be decided
Wedding Details &/or Other Things to Share: So, we technically are already married, because Matt is from NZ and we had to marry within 90 days of his arrival. Not much time to plan a wedding, so we just did it with immediate family and are planning on doing it again with all our friends and family.

My mom heard about the David's Bridal sale, and I got a bit ahead of myself and bought a dress because it was only $99 and supposedly being sent back to the factory the next day! They're supposed to be fixing a flaw (a string left inside the bodice) but I haven't heard from them in a while...I should call again. I'm not too thrilled with the idea of storing the dress for a year! But I guess it's one detail taken care of. They also talked me into buying the bra, which I wasn't sure I needed as I am pretty small on top, but the saleslady insisted I did need it. I felt inclined to listen because she was the one who brought out the $99 dress when I had been looking at a $400 dress, so I didn't think she was trying to gain too much commission...but maybe that's her strategy- cheap dress, lots of accessories. Like the $150 veil I bought. It's so beautiful, but costs more than the dress.

We've visited a ton of reception sites so far, and none are quite perfect (well, except for the one that would cost $20,000, but that's way beyond our budget!). We've visiting two more this weekend, and hopefully going to settle on somewhere within the next few days.

Speaking of reception sites and vendors and whatnot- I keep hearing how with off season weddings, you should get lots of discounts- how do you go about asking for this? Do you tell the reception site "You know, it is the off season, you should really give me a discount to guarantee my business...otherwise it could be an awfully quiet month..." or what???

We also bought some invitation materials from Target when we had a 20% off coupon, but we haven't decided to use them or not yet. I really like the idea of save the date magnets, but not sure if it's worth the extra money.

Not much else figured out yet... :)

Fiance's Name/Username: Marcus
Location: Currently Sacramento, CA - though we're looking at moving soon.
When Did You Meet: November 11, 2005.
When Did You Get Engaged: October 15, 2006.
Wedding Date: January 12, 2008.
List in Community Wedding Calendar? Yes!
Wedding Location: Undecided as yet. Possibly Benicia (my hometown).
Wedding Details &/or Other Things to Share: Gosh, I really haven't gotten much decided yet. It's taken me near four months just to pick a date. ;) I originally wanted June '07, and have still been waffling back and forth about that, but I've finally started getting attached to this date that my fella and I picked together. So. Other than that, pretty much all I know is our first dance. I'm clueless as to colors, theme, location... and I've only got the most rudimentary guest list. Oh well. At least, now that I've picked January, I have a year instead of five months!

Looking forward to see what everyone is up to.

Location: California
When Did You Meet: August 2004
When Did You Get Engaged: July 2005 (very informal at first...I didn't do anything planing wise for about 8 months and we have started recently planning and saving and all that jazz)
Wedding Date: January 5, 2008
List in Community Wedding Calendar? Sure :)
Wedding Location: San Francisco, CA
Wedding Details &/or Other Things to Share: FI and I are doing this all on our own, so it's been a struggle to save $, pay for school, rent, our 2 cats and a dog, etc, but I'm excited that we finally have a date set. We have chosen our location and we will be visiting this weekend. I'm in school for Hospitality Management which basically means I want to plan things (like weddings) for a living, so I can be a bit obsessive about the wedding sometimes to the dismay of FI lol ;) I'm looking forward to meeting other Jan 08 brides! (Also, my LJ pic was taken about 4 years ago...how do I get those cool icons??)

processional music- done! [28 Aug 2006|10:25am]

opheliasmusing
so over the weekend, i picked finally found a version of the piece i want to process in to. it matches perfectly even down to starting in the same key the wedding party processional ends in, uses some of the same intstruments, but is decidedly more formal and elegant- perfect for the bride's entrance, and especially since the wedding party piece is so whimsical. it's like, "ok, ok everybody, this is for real now." since we're still 516 days out (who's counting!), FH says this is still tentative, but i'll be damned if it walk in to anything else ;)

for listening goodness, i've provided links to the amazon pages for song titles- you can also download/listen to samples of both on iTunes.

Wedding party processional:
"Loquasto International Film Festival" - track 2 from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou soundtrack

Bride's entrance:
Vivaldi's Concerto No. 4, Mov III: Largo (Winter) performed by the Mair Davis Duo, from an obscure 1994 Christmas album, Joyful Tidings

Now I just need to find something fitting for the recessional... we defintely want classical, and something along the lines of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G, Movt I: Allegro; for some reason, I've always envisioned it as my wedding recessional, but the more I listen to it, the less it feels appropriate to an evening winter wedding (Jan 26, 2008). It feels too formal summer garden wedding. Ideas? Thoughts? And all of the "Play These Classical Pieces at Your Wedding" CD's have been no help at all.

Microsoft Office Templates [07 Aug 2006|10:49am]

opheliasmusing
So while doing some random searching, Microsoft Office online has a slew of wedding templates for various programs (mostly publisher and excel)- from invites to programs, they have a pretty decent selection if you need something quick to run off.

here's the link: Microsoft Office Online wedding templates

if the link doesn't work, head to office.microsoft.com, select Templates from the dropdown box at the top of the page, and type in "wedding" in the search field.

enjoy ladies!

Hello & welcome! I'm really excited about setting up this community, and look forward to everyone's posts. Membership is open to all- just keep it clean :)

Please read the User Info page for specific community guidelines. There you'll find info about Intro Posts, Helpful Resources, and the Jan08 Member Wedding Calendar.

Here's to happy wedding planning!

PS- I am desperately trying to make this community look nicer. So, if anyone with lovely, savvy CSS skills can make this page look slightly more winter wedding related rather than just winter related, that would be helpful. Full credit will be given in the User Info, as well as my undying love. ^_^
